La Vie Parisienne

(The Parisian Life) By Jaques Offenbach, this is an upbeat and rousing piece of orchestral music. This is the music Madame Danzard is listening to when she thinks she is alone, but she abruptly changes it when she notices her daughter is near. This reflects how Madame Danzard works hard to portray a certain sense of propriety.

Nun komm der Heiden Heiland- BWV 659

Johann Sebastian Bach - Prelude and Fugue in C Major BWV 553 from 8 short Preludes & Fugues BWV 553 - 560 is a dirge-like organ piece whose sound puts one in mind of a funeral or a church service. This is the music Madame Danzard switches to when her daughter walks in. The somber sound of the organ belies the serious and religious exterior Madame Danzard is obsessed with.

Sur le Pont d'Avignon

(On the Avignon Bridge) A children’s folk song sung in France, similar to “Ring Around Rosy.” Isabelle Danzard is playing this on the piano, poorly. This teaches the audience that Isabelle is very naive and child-like, and also somewhat of a failure and a disappointment to her mother.

Venez Donc Chez Moi

(Come to My House) A big bang swing piece with an upbeat tempo including vocals and scatting.

C'est la Saison d'Amour

(It’s the season of love) A pop song from the 1930s where the vocalist sings with an operatic quality, interspersed with sweeping violin.
